The Athenry Surgery Medical Practice was founded in 1983 by Doctors Michael McGloin and Bridget Keane. Following 30 years of care to the Athenry Community from their previous locations beside the historic arch tower entrance to the Village and Caheroyn, they along with their partner GPs, Drs Ian O’Connor and David Meehan designed and developed the Athenry Primary Care Centre. The Centre and the new Surgery opened on 22nd July 2013.

At the time of development, The Surgery’s incorporation within the Primary Care Centre was designed to provide a one stop location for the Athenry community to service all their healthcare requirements. Since opening its doors in 2013, the Primary Care Centre and indeed the practice has grown each year. This is testament to our patients’ approval of such a facility and the hard work and dedication of the various teams working within the Centre, be it for The Surgery, the HSE or other. Please note: The Surgery is a separate entity within the Centre and we work closely with all other service providers operating from Athenry Primary Care Centre as listed below:

The main focus is our community and all services delivered from the centre are to the highest standards by a strong focused team of professionals. The Primary Care Centre offers a broad range of HSE services including:

All HSE services listed above are run by the HSE within the Primary Care Centre and they should be contacted by phone on 091 737300. The staff in The Surgery will be unable to assist you if you ring for HSE services using the Surgery number.

In addition, the centre accommodates Affidea Ireland. They run an Ultrasound service on behalf of the HSE for all GMS patients. The service operates from the first floor of The Primary Care Centre Monday to Friday and is by appointment only.
