Welcome to The Surgery, Athenry.
The Surgery was founded in 1983 by Doctors Michael McGloin and Bridget Keane. Following 30 years of care to the Athenry Community from their previous locations beside the historic arch tower entrance to the Village and Caheroyn, they along with their Partner GPs, Drs Ian O’Connor and David Meehan designed and developed the Athenry Primary Care Centre. The Centre and the current Surgery location opened 10 years later on 22nd July 2013. Since then Drs Olga O Driscoll and Marie-Therese Glynn have been added as Partner GP’s to help assist in the running of the Practice. The Surgery’s incorporation within the Primary Care Centre was designed to provide a one stop location for the Athenry community to service all their healthcare requirements. During 2023, the Practice celebrated its 40th year caring for the community of Athenry and its surrounding villages.

Our practice comprises of General Practitioners, GP Registrars, Nursing and Administration Support teams. Our promise to you is to provide the best healthcare service to our community, consistently delivering that service to our patients within a clean, safe and friendly environment. Our team of healthcare professionals endeavour to ensure your healthcare needs are met and your service expectations are exceeded.

We are a HSE approved Yellow Fever medical centre. This certification permits us to vaccinate our patients for yellow fever. In June 2017 we were awarded the NALA Crystal Clear Practice Mark and were the first medical practice in the West of Ireland to receive recognition for our effort to communicate in plain and simple English to our patients.

Although we are in the same building and we work closely with all other service providers operating from Athenry Primary Care Centre, it is important to note The Surgery is a separate entity from the HSE services and you should not contact us looking for information relating to any of the services listed below.
